The Oakland County Circuit Court acknowledges the increasing number of individuals pursuing legal action without the assistance of an attorney. Those who represent themselves are known as pro se or self-represented litigants and act on their own behalf. It is important to note that this site does not provide legal advice, as Michigan law prohibits court employees and judges from offering such guidance. Below, you will find resources that may assist self-represented litigants. However, the court does not guarantee the accuracy or timeliness of the information on these sites, which have been screened for basic reliability at the time of inclusion but may change, along with volunteer schedules. Additionally, many free legal aid services depend on individual circumstances, and proof of financial need may be necessary.

- Request Form for Court Appointed Attorney
- Legal Aid and Defender Association (LAD)– A nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive civil legal services to residents of Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties who cannot afford an attorney. Attorneys will inform individuals about court procedures and forms, will advise them of their rights, and in some cases represent them in court.
- Family Law Assistance Program or F.L.A.P.– A Lakeshore Legal Aid program that provides legal aid clinics and legal services to low income residents of Oakland County or low income individuals with family law cases in Oakland County.
- Oakland Mediation Center Legal Aid Clinic– Offers a low-cost legal services based on income and need. Contact their office at (248) 338-4280 ext. 211.
- The Salvation Army William Booth Legal Aid Clinic– Offers qualifying low income individuals free legal assistance on Family Law, Immigration or Estate Planning.
- Many special services are available to our Nation’s veterans and service members. The State of Michigan Attorney Generals Office has compiled lists of resources and assistance programs for veteransas well as active service members, and their families.
- Local Oakland County Veterans Services Information can be located on Oakland County’s Veterans’ Services website.
